Cool. Shawn at Great Lake Offroad does great work. He custom cut the rock rings for my wheels from a drawing on a pizza box.

Has anyone tried to make their own inserts for these wheels? We have a pipe company in town.

I watched that one before. Ours are 16.5 so we would need bigger pipe.

It'd be about the same procedure right? I can't imagine there would be much of a savings after paying by the foot over getting some from someplace like Trail Worthy Fab... maybe though??

I have seen others that bolt together. They used a larger diameter pipe and cut it down. Probably simpler to just buy them.

Sometimes the fun's in build em tho. To that point...
I just bought steelies and weld on bead locks, my question to you guys is, I'd like to bead balance these and I was thinking it might help to balance the wheel its self before installing the tire... My thought is that traditional balancing will balance the wheel and tire simultaneously where as the beads alone can't balance the wheel as they don't have any physical contact. Unfortunately I'm not a physicist and I don't want to wast the money on a bubble balancer if it's not going to do anything for me, any idea if this will help?
I've posted this on other forums and asked the tire shops in town and I cant get a solid answer whether it'll make any difference.

I would guess that if you have a balanced wheel to start with, it would make a difference. That's why there are marks on higher performance tires. Wheels are usually off balance near the valve stem.

I balanced my wheels by welding washers onto them, only because I'm fussy about vibrations. But beads will balance the assembly by itself. upstate4x4.com/thread-169.htmlFrom what I have read 16" PVC or HDPE pipe will work as an insert. The hard part is making a square cut.
