Hopefully I get paid for my Explorer today. I'm thinking about a backup rig, so I could have time tearing down the CJ to make it more awesome (or just a little bit better). Should I look into XJ'S or ZJ's? Either would get JY 4-5" lifts, and tractor link control arms. Total budget would be around 6-800. Hopefully sit on 35's. Opinions?

Just an aesthetics opinion but XJ all the way. I'd love to have a 2 door someday when I have room for one.

That's just about what I want. I hope to build it for less though.

ZJs are cheaper, but have crappy transmissions. I'd stick to XJ.

Yeah, the V8 ones were full time 4x4. Some of the 4.0 were too.

some times a beater can be a lot of fun. 33-35's with at least a locker will get you around enoough too have fun.

That's what I'm thinking Jay. I regret smashing the windshield off the CJ.

There is a commitment that needs to be made too have a true trail rig once it's made .the rig capabilities will improve drastically. My 4 runner is a trail beater with plates. it wouldn't go half the places it does if I worried about damage.

That's why I retired the green Jeep to street use and light wheeling. It did great on the blacks at RC, but I cringed at every bang.

T-minus 13 days to Rausch. Beater or the big beater, or the JKU. Decisions....
